Rant against HTML mail
I think I’ll be sick. Suddenly (it seems to me) some of my dreary e-mail correspondence has bloomed into garish colors and cute typefaces. Even a few mail lists and newsletters have caught the virus. The recent minutes of a church presbytery meeting has also bloomed and become almost unreadable. I hate it. ( know, I know, but this is a blog, not e-mail.)
What’s going on, anyway? There are surely still those whose e-mail program of choice only responds to plain text. Well, they are just out of luck, I guess. If the purpose of mail is to communicate simply and economically, plain text is best. You know that everyone can read it, and you avoid irritating the hell out of me.
Rant off.
Dave, curmudgeon.

Dad, I have AOL and nearly all of my mail received is basically straight text, unless it’s a newsletter with the HTML formatting. Do my emails to you still come through weirdly?
Your mails come through fine, I hope because you set your e-mail program to be text only.
