Brothers at the lake

7

We met at the Ayers condo at the Lake of the Ozarks in early October, bro Tom from the left coast, bro Don from Kansas City. Our mutual objective was to have better fishing than the last time we turned the condo into a bachelor’s pad in May, 2008. Three rapidly aging geezers wedged themselves into a 19-foot Ranger bass boat and set out each morning and afternoon looking for bass.

The company was great, the weather was perfect, and we each hooked at least one bass. The winner this trip was Don with two bass. Tom had a good bass on and couldn’t quite coax it into jumping into the boat. My role was that of camera man, just like in the tournaments, more or less.

But a picture speaks louder than words, so enjoy:

Dave, looking forward to next time.

I love it! So Tom… where’s your fish? Can’t believe you let Don catch all the fish! And you had the tall seat! Dad, Karen said your narration was the bomb. That’s good… Thanks for sharing!

Way to go, reeling ‘em in, Don! Nice film-making, Dad. Had to make it a silent movie as I have a sleeping Katie and a snoozing John here in our hotel room. Seems I missed narration that was da bomb!

Dave, thanks for sharing your video. You’re right, I always suspected that you spent those days eating and drinking and playing poker — like every other fisherman.

Didn’t you get a picture of Tom’s “one that got away” which is alleged to be bigger than either of Don’s?

Did M find the condo acceptable after the brothers descent? What did she think of all the back-scratchers Tom left?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for your comments on the video clip. I was asleep at the switch when Tom hooked his fish, I’m afraid. I assume that you will take Don and my word for it that it was a lunker.

I hate to admit it, but we haven’t been to the lake since we added to her back scratcher inventory. We hope to be at the lake after Christmas for a week or so.

Nice video, Dad! I got a kick out of seeing the three brothers Ayers having a good time out on the lake.

  6. Kyle Schmidt says:

This was fun to watch. It’s really beautiful out on the lake. I can’t wait for next time to come and fish at the lake.

  7. Dave says:

Thanks, Larry and Kyle. When the water temperature finally gets back to 50 or more, I’d be glad to guide either of you around the lake. It is beautiful, especially at about sun-up.
