Day 40: Truth

2

19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
–James 5:19-20 (ESV)

When I, as a sinner, wander from the truth, I hope one of my brothers or sisters in the faith will lead me back. That’s the easy part of this short passage.

The hard part, for me anyway, in understanding the connection between leading someone back to truth and the saving of my soul from death. Perhaps the connection isn’t cause and effect but James simply reverting to his main theme: faith without works is dead. Jesus himself is Truth.

This brings us to the end of James and the end of the 40 days of Lent. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, the peak of the Christian year.

He is risen indeed!
