Say ‘cheese’

From today’s Wall Street Journal:

Eastman Kodak Co. is preparing to seek bankruptcy protection in the coming weeks, people familiar with the matter said, a move that would cap a stunning comedown for a company that once ranked among America’s corporate titans.

It is interesting how certain events seem to mark the ending of an era (think Pujols). Film box How long has it been since you bought one of these? Or when was the last time you took a Polaroid snapshot (and patiently waited for the result to appear)?

I am glad that my life coincides with so many epochal technological events. It’s good to be alive, even on bummer mornings like this.

Dave, glad to be shut of the buy-take-process-wait cycle of film photos.

That whole Kodak thing makes me kinda sad, they sure had a good thing going. I guess they were too late in going digital…or was it just too great an overhaul? It Is nice to have the instant satisfaction with digital though…..just click click click all you want and edit out rejects later .

I have heard this kind of thing called “creative destruction” of the old to make way for the new, and the new is better in many ways, as you have noted. It sure makes my old bathroom darkroom seem like the dark ages, doesn’t it!
