Stella gets a winter coat

4

Stella's coat

My pet telescope and midnight companion Stella has been getting the shivers lately as the season progresses. Her warm weather coat of a charcoal grill cover doesn’t quite answer. The solution is a weatherproof scooter cover tucked in around her tripod legs.

Today is turning out to be a beautiful Veteran’s Day precursor, a true photographer’s “Bluebird day.” The Good Sam maintenance crew arrived early this morning to clean yards and patios of leaves, so our new neighborhood is sparkling in the morning sun. If all goes according to plan (it rarely does), I will keep my date with Stella at a suitable old man’s hour of 8:30 this evening to see how she behaves after being snugged into her new winter coat. Thanks to being back to standard time for the winter, it will be fully dark for some astro picture taking. I hope.

I’ve made several changes in my photographic routine recently. For one, I decided to leave Stella completely set up outside, save for camera, laptop computer, and mount hand controller. I may relent come the first winter blizzard, but for now she should always be ready for photon gathering with a minimum of frozen fingers.

Another change is remote control of Stella from indoors where it is warm and toasty. What a wimp of an astronomer I am turning out to be! I can only plead old age.

Dave, just waiting for the sun to go down.

Seems like the perfect setup to me! Glad you like your star gazing and that your desk is right there looking out at Stella. Gaze on old man.

  2. Dave says:

Well! On which old man would you like me to gaze?

Looks like a beautiful fall day, good luck with Stella! Wow, they make a remote for everything. Get some good Fall leaf pictures for me if you still do day time shots:)

    Laura,

I have some fall leaf pictures on my cellphone, but so far I haven’t figured out how to email them to you. I’ll keep trying. I’m starting to think that old men, set in their ways, and modern technology are not a very good match.
