My name is Dave Ayers, and I am a Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, retired businessman, volunteer, reader, angler, ship-modeler, photographer, and computer enthusiast.
Born during the second year of the Great Depression in a small town in Kansas, I remember World War II as a young boy, sat out the Korean conflict in college and was too old for Viet Nam. Nevertheless, I have a heart for our men and women in the service today. I read a lot of military history and appreciate the sacrifice they make on our behalf.
The nautical theme is the result of reading and re-reading the 20 historical sea novels of Patrick O’Brian. Protagonists Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin are like old friends. My interest in the Age of Sail, roughly 1750-1850, has led me to modeling sailing ships of the period.
I’m an elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and presently serve as Clerk of Session, defining my role as the official custodian of local church history as I write the minutes of each Session meeting. I fill this position at the pleasure of Pastor and Session as we jointly strive to serve our Maker.
